Blue Economy Leadership
Blaine brings 20 years of leadership, fundraising, and operational experience to her practice, focusing on blue economy business development from Rhode Island to Maine and across the North Atlantic Rim.
Experience:
Ocean House Consulting (Blaine Grimes- principal) has over 30 years of business leadership experience across multiple sectors, with career concentration science and technology innovations related to ocean and climate science and the wild and farmed seafood industry. For the past 20 years, Blaine served as both the Chief Development Officer and the Chief Ventures Officer at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute. She has raised millions of dollars in philanthropic, non-dilutive grants and investment dollars and has supported and advised over 150 founders/startup companies working in the blue economy sector. In addition, Blaine co-founded Bold Ocean Ventures (a blue economy impact investment fund) with managing partners Brady Bohrmann and Tim Agnew and has helped to raise $10M in investment commitments towards the launch of that fund. She is currently a member of Bold Ocean Ventures’ investment committee.
While at GMRI, Blaine conceived of and launched Gulf of Maine Ventures, a team of professionals focused on bridging the gap between innovative blue economy businesses and the capital, technical knowledge, and networking needed to help them grow. As the entrepreneurship and innovation arm of the Gulf of Maine Research Institute in Portland, Gulf of Maine Ventures was designed to catalyze solutions to global ocean challenges by supporting climate and ocean-economy companies from ideation through investment, launch, and scale.
